I enjoy and re-read all the Penric stories regularly. Very pleased to find this when I didn't realize there was another one yet!

Another excellent addition to Bujold's Penric and Desdemona series. This story is set about 1 to 2 years after the events of The Prisoner of Limnos. Altogether this series of novellas is shaping up to be a fascinating story. I don't usually like novellas because they don't have a lot of heft, but put together these stories have real substance as Penric and Desdemona gain in experience and grow as a team book by book. In this installment Penric once again finds himself in a mess he definitely wasn't looking to be in the middle of, and -- as always -- eventually finds out that he is nevertheless just exactly where his God needs him to be. However this time Desdemona finally gets to satisfy her desire to cause a little chaos and destruction, which is always fun. Also, for the first time in the series the book contains a map, which is useful for keeping the geography straight. I've been wanting a map to this world for a while.
