I enjoy these characters and this story line but this book only managed to bring a couple of cliffhangers from the series to a close and set up the next book. I have read a number of series from this author and this sometimes happens in her other series as well. I will read the next book, I feel I have invested too much not to, but I hope it is better than this one.

I read a lot of books & have gotten to the point where I can pretty much guess what will happen next in most stories but not with these books. I'm so excited to keep reading. Finally a smart, capable female character that doesn't drive me mad. Will read all her books for sure

During the first part of the book I was getting frustrated. Such a strong main character but unable to speak her mind when it comes to her relationship. I felt that I was reading it to complete it. But it got better! After the resolution of a main plot point, I feel more content with the series. Off to the next one!

I just finished reading The Convent's Secret (the fifth book in the Glass and Steel series) and purchased The Ink Makers Silence. Should be enough said, right? Wrong!!! I am not usually a fan of "period or historical" books but I am enthralled by the Glass and Steele series. The characters are so REAL, the mysteries so intriguing and the "magik" so authentic I forget this is supposed to take place in the 1890's. Well done Ms, Archer!!

Tho the plot is sometimes frustrating as every character continues to keep individual secrets and the characters all seem very 1 dimensional. Willie, will never change her outlandish ways. The main character; Mathew; although can fight, never argues with the women in his life. No matter how much chaos ensues. Then ther’s the gentle giant, which we are unclear if he will ever exert himself. The plot moves slowly, like a Chinese telenovella. Must confess, I skipped to the end after the 1st chapter. Something I do when the plot moves slowly, which this entire series tend to do. I still enjoyed reading it tho. On to my next book. Sorry about the review, you asked.
