I have been reading Darcy Burke for years and have enjoyed her books and this is another one that I will add to the list. This is part of a series, and this is the second book but can be read as a standalone even though I plan on reading the first book because I like to read all in the series. This is Isabelle and Val love story. These two meet as young ones when he is in College and Isabelle is around since her father works there but they will be forbidden since they are in different social standings. However you can't stop love and these two have a night to remember but move on since again different social status. They both marry but always remember each other and years later they meet again but now will they get a chance of an HEA or continue to be forbidden? Grab a copy and find out..Enjoy! I received a free, advanced copy of this book as a member of the author's Review Crew. This is my unbiased and voluntary review. This second book in the Wicked Dukes Club series is about the second owner of the Wicked Dukes tavern, Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh. It is a second chance story. Valentine and Isabelle had been friends (and one time with benefits) when Val was at Oxford, where Isabelle's father was warden of Merton College. Ten years have passed. Both had married badly (because they didn't marry each other). Val's wife was a wanton, who had died in childbirth with another man's child and Isabelle's husband had left her in debt. Both have declared that they would never marry again. Now Mrs. Isabelle Cortland, works for Lord Barkley and his wife as governess for their two daughters. A visit to London, has them staying at the home of Lord Barley's friend the Duke of Eastley. Val is shocked when he sees Isabelle, but agrees to keep their acquaintance a secret, so she doesn't loose her position. However, when Lady Barkley, out of jealousy, replaces her with another governess, all bets are off. It takes Val's sister, Viola, and their grandmother to get the two to admit that they still love the other. But does Isabelle have it in her to be a duchess? Will we find out what Viola's secret is in a future book? Delightful characters, witty dialogue and an enticing plot make this book a fun read.

This story was beautifully written. It is full of second chances, a woman’s independence, taking opportunities when they arise, and overcoming past mistakes. I love the characters of Val and Isabella and the underlying story of their past together. I highly recommend this delightful quick read of love and HEAs.

One Night of Surrender is the second book in the Wicked Dukes Club series written by Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley. You definitely don't want to miss out on this series if you love historical romances filled with misbehaving Dukes and the only women that are strong enough to tame them. In One Night to Surrender by Darcy Burke Val and Isabelle have a forbidden love affair that neither of them has ever forgotten and years later when circumstances out of their control bring them together again they are finding it challenging to not allow history repeat itself. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Oh my historical romance god...I fricking loved this book. I can't believe this is my first Darcy Burke book. Where have you been hiding?!? This story was amazing. Though both MC's have had a difficult life since they last seen each other, when fate intervened and they cross paths again it was as they never left each others sides. I love the side characters especially Viola. The pace of the story was well written, banter funny and steamy moments I was blushingly like a little girl and I was sad to read the words THE END because I just wanted this story to go on and on... PERFECTION ***Review copy requested and reviewed on behalf of OMGReads Blog***

They are two very stubborn people set on never marrying again, but fate has other plans for them. That spark was still there and hadn’t dulled in the past ten years. I loved that every time they tried to stay away from each other something would toss them together. Surrendering once wasn’t going to be enough for either of them. I loved how his sister and grandmother got involved and didn’t beat around the bush. Isabelle loves her independence and isn’t going to let a sudden change make her relay on anyone. I loved that she wasn’t going to let anything stop and how educated she was. Val knew they had something special all those years ago and knows he can’t let her go this time. I loved everything he did to make sure she was taken care of and that he knew it was her with his sister. I hope his sister has a story coming soon because she was amazing and I wouldn’t mind seeing his grandmother again. Copy provided for an honest and voluntary review

London - 1817 Mrs. Isabelle Cortland is employed by Lord Barkley and his wife as governess for their daughters Beatrice, 13, and Caroline, 10. Lord Barkley, his daughters, and Isabelle are temporarily staying at the home of Valentine Fairfax, the Duke of Eastleigh, while renovations are being completed on the Barkley home. Isabelle is hoping that she will not encounter Valentine during their stay. Ten years ago, the two of them spent a night of passion and Isabelle has never forgotten that night. Isabelle is the daughter of an Oxford head and extremely well educated by her father. Her dream is to one day open a school for girls. However, when Valentine and Isabelle do meet, they both know they are still attracted to one another. Isabelle had been married, but when her husband passed several years ago having gambled away the family funds, she had no choice but to take a position as a governess. Valentine had also been unhappily married and his wife has passed away. When Isabelle meets Valentine’s sister, Viola, and their crotchety grandmother, she is impressed with Viola’s friendliness and independence. She also says she wants to introduce Isabelle to her friends. She can’t help but be somewhat intimated by their grandmother. One day, Isabelle learns she is to be replace by another governess because Lady Barkley is jealous of her and wants her out. Eager to find a new position as soon as possible, she applies as a barmaid called the Wicked Duke owned by Valentine and his friend, the Duke of Colehaven, and is accepted. However, this does not go down well with Valentine and he steps in to make some changes. Is there a way that these two people can be together? They are so much in love. I liked this book very much and found it to be yet another delighted historical romance by a talented author. Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is the second book in a series that is being co-written by Erica Ridley and Darcey Burke. I love Erica Ridley's books so I vwas excited to read this series. Isabelle is a highly educated woman. He father was a warden (not the jailer kind ) at a school near Oxford. When she was younger, she met Val, the Duke of Eastleigh. He was attending Oxford at the time. They were attracted to one another and had a one night fling. Isabelle knew that even though she cared for Val deeply, she was not suitable to be his duchess. She also knew that she would be marrying a man that her father woukd choose for her. Val was taken with Isabelle from the moment he saw her dressed like a boy, attempting to remain unnoticed so she could attend her father's lecture. Val knows he will have to eventually marry but doesn't plan to for years to come. Years later, both of their spouses are dead. They meet up again when Isabelle's employer asks his friend the Duke of Eastleigh, if he, his 2 daughters and their governess can stay with him until the townhome they have rented for the season is ready. The two find their attraction is stronger than ever but Isabelle is determined to avoid Val. This book is filled with characters from the first two books, who walk through or are mentioned in the subsequent books. This book is definitely worth youre reading. It's a feel good story with a HEA.

Book two of The Wicked Duke series. Isabelle is a governess to Lord and Lady Barkley's children. Until Lord Barkley's house is finished, they will be staying with Valentine, the Duke of Eastleigh. When they meet, it is as if time has stood still. Val and Isabelle met when Val was at school and her father, the warden of the school. Since then both have been married and lost their spouses. Isabelle is trying to save enough money to open her own school, but when she loses her position, that dream is put on hold. Maybe, she can work at The Wicked Duke as a barmaid, but Val puts a stop to that and hires her to be his sister's companion. When Val's Grandmama takes Isabelle in hand, things start to heat up. I can't say how much I love this book. Val and Isabelle were dynamite together making my heart speed up. Can't wait for the rest of the series.. I voluntarily read this book from the author

A rekindled love sends the second wicked duke to the alter. Val is a strong smart independent women. Val is a duke who is kind and has a heart. Viola the dukes sister is a wonderful character and plays a great part in this story. This is a very sweet romance. Can’t wait for the next book!

Finally! We find out why Val is so moody!(Ok, it's only been 1 book and 2 weeks of waiting, but stil... ;)) One Night of Surrender is a relatively low angst second chance romance. Val and Isabelle knew each other ten years earlier and had a great deal of flirting then and one night of passion. Fast forward to the present and they've each had a disastrous marriage and are widowed; he's a duke but she's a rather unconventional governess with dreams of opening her own school. They're thrown together when Val opens his home to the family that Isabelle happens to work for, and of course the sparks fly almost immediately. I liked both the main characters and felt they had decent chemistry and were easy to root for. Their conflict was pretty low key and a relatively easy solve, though--not a ton of drama here. Still, this was a quick, entertaining read that has me looking forward to future series books. (I can't wait for Viola's book--loved her!) If you haven't read the first book in the series yet ( One Night for Seduction ) you should still do fine here, but do yourself a favor and read them all--they're a great group of characters, and fairly short reads. Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Widow Isabelle Cortland has been working as a governess for the last few years and saving to open up her own impoverished girl’s school. Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh, never forgot Isabelle from his school days. She was the intelligent, witty and forbidden daughter of a head of college at Oxford. It was first love for both of them though neither never admitted their love to each other, but sadly it was not meant to be they both married other people. I love second chance love stories, both have been wounded and want to be loved and respected in return and when they unexpectedly meet again all those feeling come roaring to the surface threatening to consume them both. Will they give into the passion and fire they once shared, will their pasts be enough to convince them love is worth anything if only they have enough courage to not let go again and find their HEA!!! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

A story of a long ago encounter that never was forgotten by either party. Years ago, Valentine, Duke of Eastleigh had experienced one amazing night with Isabelle Cortland, the daughter of the head of the college. Since then he had been through a terrible marraige and was determined never to get caught in that trap again. But then he literally ran into Isabelle again. Isabelle had married after that encounter but was now a widow and left with no money, so she went to work as a governess for the two girls of Lord Barkley. Having renovations done on he townhome, they stayed at Val's house. What are the chances? She intended to stay far away. As fate would have it, almost after her arrival she met him unexpectedly in the corridor. "Isabelle?" She was older of course, and far more beautiful than he remembered. He blinked, closing his eyes for a moment, but when he opened them she was still there." paraphrased but he was astonished and the spark was still there! Could their love rekindle from so long ago? Darcy Burke always writes such wonderful stories that always pull me in quickly. Such a heartwarming second chance emotional story with characters that grab you and have you desperately want to find their way to a happy ending. The secondary characters are full of life and bring a lot to this tale and I cannot wait until the next book in this series! This series is an amazing collaberation between two brilliant authors of historical romance!! Lori Dykes

Ten years ago, when Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh was attending Oxford, he met Isabelle, the lovely and intelligent daughter of the warden of Merton College. Though it was forbidden for the students to fraternize with the wardens and their families, these two got to be friends – and more. When they parted, neither ever thought to see the other again, though they thought of each other often during the years. Val’s very unhappy marriage ended when his wife died in childbirth and he doubts he’ll ever marry again even though his grandmother is insistent that he does. Just imagine his shock when he greets his newly arrived houseguests and finds that their governess is the now widowed Isabelle. He can’t imagine how she came to be a governess. Isabelle spends a lot of time trying to avoid Val because she cannot afford for their relationship to start up again because she could too easily lose her position and her reputation. Besides, she has learned that she cannot depend on any man to take care of her, she must be independent and take care of herself. She is still very drawn to Val, but she can’t let anything come of it. However, Val has other plans. Just being near Isabelle makes Val feel alive. He knows he should honor her wishes and leave her be, but he just can’t. Somehow, he just can’t control himself around her. He constantly thinks of her and what she needs and what will make her happy and then he just arranges for them to happen. This is a wonderfully delightful second-chance romance with two very likable people. You’ll be rooting for them the whole way through. I would have loved for them to have married earlier – or have the book be just a tad longer – and have Isobelle be expecting at the end. However, this is a continuing series, so maybe, we’ll hear more about that in future books. I definitely recommend this novella. It is a short, lovely and romantic read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book to read through the author in exchange for a fair review. One Night of Surrender by Darcy Burke is the second book in the Wicked Dukes Club series. It can be read as a stand-alone. The first book in the series One Night for Seduction is by Erica Ridley. Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh met and fell in love with Isabelle Courtland when he was a student at Oxford and her father was one of the wardens at the college. Now several years later they meet again both widowed when Isabelle becomes a guest at his house in her roll as governess to Val’s friends children. One of the things I like about this book is that Val wants Isabelle to be happy and when her employment as a governess ends he does his best to help find her a career that she will enjoy. He does however take too long in my humble opinion to even consider marriage as an option although I have to admit that Isabelle does not either. If you are looking for an enjoyable second chance at love novella I think you will find this one to be a fun read. Medium Steam. I really enjoyed Val and Isabelle's story! It was a reunion story, which is always one of my favorites! Val and Isabelle knew each other 10 yrs ago when he was at university. They had a fling and they both went on with their lives, but never forgot about the other. When they meet up again, Isabelle is a tutor and the family she works for ends up staying at Val's home. Will this reunion turn into something more? I loved that Isabelle was an unconventional character. She was a scholar and took a job that showcased her talents. Val appreciated her skills and they made her that much more attracted to her. This was a great quick read and I'm excited to read the next in the series!

A lot has changed since Cole and Val became friends and earned the name the Wicked Dukes at Oxford. The friends now own Wicked Dukes, the most notorious tavern in London. One Night of Surrender by Darcy Burke is the second book in the Wicked Dukes Club series and focuses on Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh. Val agrees to let Lord Barkley and his family while renovations to their townhouse are completed. He gets a quite a surprise when he meets their governess, Mrs. Isabelle Cortland. Val and Isabelle had been in love, but her father had chosen a suitor for her, and they parted. After two not so happy marriages and different lives for both of them, they meet again. They still have feelings for one another, but try to fight their attraction. Will this marriage-skittish Duke and a stubbornly independent governess stay away from each other, or will they rekindled their love and find a way to be together? This is a charming and emotional story with characters who will win your heart. Val is kind, caring and honorable. Isabelle is intelligent, well educated, and independent. They are perfect for each other and fun to watch. Grandmama and Viola are delightful, each in her own way. You do not want to miss Viola and Isabelle on their girls’ night out! I like second chance stories, and this is a good one. I happily recommend One Night of Surrender. I look forward to the story of the next handsome, charming, sigh-worthy patron of London’s most notorious tavern.

Beautiful second-chance romance! Is it really a second chance if their first chance had no chance at all? Even when Val and Isabelle were young, love was complicated enough that they knew they could never be together beyond their immediate situation. Ten years later, a chance meeting has each of them wondering if stolen moments are enough, knowing that it's still impossible for them to be together. Both have carefully guarded their hearts in the ensuing years, and neither one is willing to risk their social future on the chance of love. With the help of a well-rounded supporting cast, these two find a way to work together to make Isabelle's dream of teaching come true, and surprisingly find their HEA along the way. It's a beautiful romance with two characters who really should have been together all along, society be damned. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

One Night of Surrender is book 2 in the Wicked Dukes Club series by Darcy Burke. I liked this book, but it wasn’t as good as the first one in this series. Still Burke is one of my favorite authors and I am usually not disappointed with her stories. I felt there was as a lack of chemistry between the hero and heroine. I did enjoy the humor in the book and I liked the character of Isabelle Cortland. She is sweet and strong at the same time. One of my very favorite characters is Viola the hero’s sister. She is a hoot. Looking forward to the next book.

Two souls that have loved and lost rekindle a stolen moment. This 6 book series between Darcy Burke & Erica Ridley revolves around a bar in London called The Wicked Duke that is reminiscent of the TV series bar Cheers. It's owned by two Oxford friends, both Dukes and dubbed in school "The Wicked Dukes" because of the adventurous escapades in school. I love the feel of acceptance and the feel that all are welcome no matter their class status. This story is about co-owner Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh who is now a widower and very turned off to marriage. His wife was unfaithful and died pregnant with someone else's child. While at Oxford he and Isabelle Cortland, daughter of the warden of neighboring Merton College, shared a passionate night ten years ago. Isabelle was married to a merchant, known to her father who has now died 3 months after her father did. Her husband left her with his gambling debts that had to be settled with what her father left her. Now she has to provide for herself, becoming a governess since she was so highly educated. She has dreams of becoming the headmistress of her own school someday when she saved enough. Now she's a governess for Lord Barkley, a friend of Val's, who's rented townhouse isn't quite ready for habitation yet. Val invites his friend's family to stay with him for 2 weeks. When she discovered who's house they'd be lodging in for 2 weeks she tried to be invisible to avoid Val. Like that was possible. This story shows Val's kind and helpful character to others and Isabelle's strength and determination to not depend on others. They desperately try to deny their chemistry as he has no wish to marry and she knows she's not cut out to be a Duchess as she wasn't raised in society. I loved watching Darcy craft their love story with Val trying to help Isabelle and she scrambling to support herself when Lady Barkley unexpectedly hires another governess. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One Night of Surrender by Darcy Burke Wicked Dukes Club #2 What a delightful second chance at a HEA Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh and Isabelle Highmore Cortland are given in this, the second book, of a wonderful historical romance series! Ten years before this book begins Val and Isabelle met and became friends in Oxford. Knowing a duke and the daughter of a warden of the university were not suited for a forever kind of relationship they did get to know one another well and then one night...became quite a bit closer. That one night stayed with both of them over the years – even when both married (rather unhappily) and tried to move on with their lives. And then… Isabelle arrives in Val’s home as governess to daughters of a friend staying in Val’s home. Of course they remember one another and wonder...what if...and perhaps if only...and other things. The question now is whether or not they can relinquish their unhappy pasts and find a way to be together in the future. Did I enjoy this book? Definitely Do I want to read more in this series? Without a doubt I have seen a number of names dropped in the first two books that left me wanting to know if perhaps those mentioned would have books of their own AND have to say book three is one I am definitely looking forward to reading...soon! Thank you to both Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley for the ARC as they are both writing alternate books in the series ~ This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

This pair nearly broke my heart. Ten years ago, Val and Isabelle should have stayed together but neither was prepared to bridge their different worlds to make it happen. A disastrous marriage for each of them later and the widow and widower are accidentally thrust into each other’s orbit again. Will history repeat itself, have these two learned from their past mistakes, or have they been too badly hurt to risk anything now? I loved how very independent Isabelle is, even when she’s being too independent for her own good. I adore Val. He’s so sweet and charming, and that alpha protective streak is utterly swoon-worthy. The supporting cast are larger than life and I can’t wait to read more in this series. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through NetGalley.
