Another great story by Darcy Burke! One Night of Scandal is the fourth book in the Wicked Dukes Club series created by Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley. You definitely don't want to miss reading this great series if you love historical romances. Lady Viola Fairfax doesn't care if she ever marries so her reputation doesn't concern her, so masquerading as a man in order to write a popular column in a women's magazine makes perfect sense. However when her research leads her to discover that a prominent MP might be involved with a radical party, she does all that she can to find out more information. Jack Barrett is an ambitious MP who doesn't have time or even want a wife, but finds himself busy protecting Viola on her dangerous investigation when she takes up frequenting gentlemen's clubs to get her story. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this wonderful series! I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Jack catches Viola trying to get into a gentleman's club. To make matters worse, she is dressed as a man. She does so to write for a woman's magazine, which wouldn't publish her work under her own name . As a man, she can go places that she can't as herself. When she runs into Jack, she is afraid that he will reveal her secret. Instead, she is surprised when he offers to help her find the information she is after. Jack has know that "Tavistock" was a woman for some time now, but when he catches Viola trying to enter a gentleman's club, he calls her out on it. As they start working together, they grow closer. But neither has plans to marry, so what will happen when they realize they have fallen in love? I really enjoyed Jack and Viola's story! We've met Viola previously in the series and I was looking forward to her HEA. Burke did not disappoint. I loved watching Viola interact with others in places that she normally wouldn't have been allowed as herself. That added an additional layer to this wonderful story. I look forward to the next book in the series!

From the very beginning the story drew me in. This is a page turner and keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. The characters are alive and effectual. This definitely a must read. It is full of excitement and the scenes segue beautifully from one to another. You will not be bored nor disappointed. I do recommend this book.

One Night of Scandal is the fourth story about the unforgettable men of London's most notorious tavern, The Wicked Duke. This one is about Jack Barrett and Mr. Tavistock. Well, Mr. Tavistock is really Lady Viola Fairfax, the sister of the Duke of Eastleigh, who disguises herself as a man to come to the tavern to gather stories for a column she writes (the disguise is the only way she could get the job). Jack sees through her disguise and knows who she is. She and Jack, a barrister and a member of Parliament team up together to uncover who in Parliament is involved in the plot to kill the Prince Regent. The investigation turns into an adventure filled with action, danger, and intrigue. As the pair of them is rushing through London seeking clues to the mystery, they don’t realize that they are tiptoeing up to another adventure – romance. Neither of them intends to marry, at least in the near future; and besides, they would not suit (so they say). Will Jack and Viola solve the mystery of the MP involved in the plot? Can they and will they give into the attraction growing between them? This story is fast-paced and exciting. The characters are great and fun to watch - endearing and annoying at the same time (especially to each other). I am enjoying the Wicked Dukes series and look forward to the next story. I recommend One Night of Scandal and the series. By the way, has anyone see Mr. Tavistock? I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

The Wicked Dukes Club books continue to be an entertaining series to read--it's so nice to have a new one out every 2 weeks, and they're such quick reads, too! One Night of Scandal is a cute and sweet story--I really liked the characters, though the non-romance portion of the plot was at times a bit too involved for the length of the story itself. (More Jack and Viola! was the common refrain in my head while reading--I mean, I liked the espionage-y parts too, but Jack and Viola! So cute together!) We had to wait quite a bit for their "one night of scandal"--it was worth the wait, but still, I was beginning to wonder about the title--and their relationship issues (neither wanted to get married--Jack had a pre-determined schedule, and Viola had reasons) were resolved fairly easily and with minimum angst. Overall, this was an entertaining, low-key read that was a perfect way to end my weekend. Bring on the next book! Rating: 4 stars / B+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

One Night of Scandal is book four in The Wicked Dukes Club series by Erica Ridley and Darcy Burke. This book is written by Burke and is very well done. I thought it started a little bit slow but once the pace picked up, I couldn’t put the book down. I really liked both of the main characters. Jack Barrett is a member of parliament and very honest and likable. Lady Viola Fairfax masquerades as a man in order to write articles for a Lady’s Magazine. Burke places the setting of this story during an actual crisis in British history. On January 28, 1817 the Prince Regent’s carriage was attacked while he was returning from opening a new session of Parliament. Two bullet holes were found in the carriage window, but no one was hurt. No one ever discovered who was behind the attack. Riots broke out across the country when the government retaliated by instilling the Gagging Acts ( the write to speech and written expression) and the suspension of Habeas Corpus. By suspending Habeas Corpus, the British government took away an individual’s right to be brought before a judge and for that judge to demand proof that the person’s incarceration was justified. Without Habeas Corpus, anyone could be accused and thrown into prison with little recourse. It was a dangerous time in England. Many people were crying out for reform. So Burke has woven a masterful story of intrigue, danger and romance during this terrifying time. As a Parliament member Jack Barrett must step carefully through the nation’s politics. Viola finds herself ensnared in the rumor mongering of those around her and attracted to Jack. “You are a very attractive woman, even with that bloody disguise. If anyone paid close attention to you, they’d find themselves beguiled.” “ Are you?” she asked softly. He leaned close, his face so near that she could see the faint stubble of his beard beginning to shadow his jaw. “Irrevocably.” Loved it. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. I was gifted a copy of this book.

This is the fourth book in the Wicked Dukes Club but it can be read as a standalone. All of the books in the series are great and this book will definitely make you want to read the rest of the series! Lady Violet Fairfax is an eccentric woman who masquerades as a gentleman (Tavistock) to gather information for the articles she writes for the Ladies Gazette. MP Jack Barrett recognizes her and together they try to solve a political intrigue. Jack was sympathetic to Violet’s need to write something of importance. The characters were wonderful; providing laughs, romance, scandal, and mystery. The story was well paced and entertaining to read. I do wish it would have been a longer story so we could see more of the characters and the romance that developed between the two. I can’t wait to read the next book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. One Night of Scandal is the fourth book in the Wicked Dukes Club series written by both Darcy Burke and Erica Ridley. Thus far Erica writes the odd numbered books and Darcy writes the even numbered ones. This book could be read as a stand-alone, characters from the other books appear in this one but I don’t think you will feel confused at all if this is the first one you read. Viola Fairfax sister to a Duke is a writer and since the publication she writes for won’t hire a woman she writes disguised as a man. Her disguise has been quite successful thus far so she is quite shocked when up and coming MP Jack Barrett lets her know that he knows that she is a woman. Their paths cross a number of times over a story Viola is chasing down … rumours that an MP was behind an assassination attempt on the Regent and Jack wants to find the culprit. Danger and Scandal ensue. Medium Steam. Publishing Date May 28, 2019 #NetGalley #OneNIghtOfScandal #DarcyBurke #WickedDukesClub #DarcyBurkePublishing

A truly wonderful addition to this amazing series that brings forth a character from the first stories. A strong heroine who goes out and grabs what she wants and makes it happen even though society would be against her! Viola wrote a column for the Lady's Gazette, but she dresses as a man in order to do her job. You see it was really men who ran almost everything including the newspaper! So she plays her role and goes to the Wicked Duke, a pub owned by her brother and others and gathers information. Thinking she is not recognized and on the story of a lifetime, she is stopped by MP Jack Barrett. He knows she is the sister of the Duke of Eastleigh and is amazed at what she is doing! He decides to help her on her quest for a very dangerous story if leaked and assumes the role of protector. Political intrigue, danger and a developing romance bring this story on a journey that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen. Delightful, humorous and the right amount of emotion made this tale just perfect! Cannot wait to read the next one! Lori Dykes

Samuel Davis Tavistock is a reporter for Ladies Gazette and stumbles onto a big potential story. Problem is Tavistock is actually Lady Violet Fairfax, sister to Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh. She jilted her groom 14 years ago at the altar and she's been outside of society ever since. She loves to write and the only way she can do it is as a male so Tavistock was invented. She visits her brother's bar, The Wicked Duke, picking up bits of information to write about. She stumbles onto a rumor and decides to dig into it to see if it's true. When she approaches the Brooke's mens club MP Jack Barrett recognizes her in her disguise and stops her. He's the first to see through Tavistock to see Violet. She comes clean and he agrees to help her with the investigation to keep her safe. He's a liberal MP so the story is of interest to him and to the country. It seems there might be an MP who helped the radicals attack the Prince Regent and he needs to be ferreted out. This is a fascinating tale of intrigue, puzzles and who-done-its all wrapped up in sexual tension. I am forever amazed at Darcy's research and talent for telling intricate stories. This one set in the time of England's suspension of Habeas Corpus and The Seditious Meetings Law under The Prince Regent. I just finished May McGoldrick's Highland Crown also set in this time period and it gives another perspective of this conflicted time period in England's history. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Lady Viola Fairfax has posed as a male journalist for two years. No one would hire a female and the disguise allows her access to a manly man place. Her brother, the Duke of Eastleigh, is part owner of the Wicked Dukes tavern. He knows what Viola is up to and has given her access to his bar for tabloid fodder. MP Jack Barrett saw through the disguise a year ago but has kept quiet. He's decided Viola needs a partner, male, to escort her. Viola agrees so she gets access to more manly man places. We're given danger, disguises, traitorous acts, hot kisses in dark closets and a make out session in a hack! Of course they're caught and it creates a small scandal. All's well that ends well and they get a happily ever after This terrific read will be available on May 28, 2019. Next up will be One Night To Remember starring the handsome Giles Langford. I can hardly wait. #DarcyBurke #WickedDukes #Netgalley #OneNightofScandal

In this book we have a young woman who wants to be accepted as an equal. I found her to be strong, a bit of a hot-head, with a beautiful heart. As for Jack; a strong, handsome and wants to keep Viola safe. I loved him that he wanted to help her with her search even when common sense told him not to. It was so fun to read how much they tried to ignore all the growing feelings they had but ended up falling into each others arms. Each couple so far has brought something new to the table and I'm loving every single off them. This series is really amazing and I can't wait for the next book to arrive. ***Review copy requested and reviewed on behalf of OMGReads Blog***

This was a nice quick read on a rainy Sunday afternoon:) I've really been enjoying the Wicked Dukes Club series and this one is Jack and Viola's story. I thought Darcy Burke did a wonderful job writing their story and I, who really dislikes politics, actually found it intriguing! lol Lady Viola Fairfax, a reporter who is in disguise as a gentleman, and Jack Barrett, who is a barrister and a member of Parliament, team up together to find out who in parliament was involved in the plot to murder the Prince Regent. Amidst the intrigue and the danger, Viola and Jack fall in love and their passion is sizzling hot!! I really enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books in the series as well....even the grandmother who is still as miserable as ever! lol I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

So much to love in this book! Viola is determined to write with a purpose, even if that means risking social ruin. Jack quickly sees through her, but is intrigued enough to want to help her investigate some rumors that are hitting a little too close to home. Their push-pull relationship is delightfully rendered, with all the class and propriety we expect plus a healthy dash of heat and temptation. I loved the way it all came to a head, with the one thing they feared most becoming the answer to all their problems as well as their prayers. It was an absolute joy to read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I love this series. I really enjoyed reading about Jack and Viola. They are part of a rare breed of heroes. Jack isn’t a dictatorial alpha with a tragic backstory. He loves his father and has a good relationship with him. He’s working hard to better the lives of his fellow men and women. Viola isn’t a manipulative female prepared to do whatever she wants because she wants it heedless of anyone’s safety. She’s well aware of her limitations and willing to accept help and advice when it’s offered. I wasn’t prepared for the in-depth look at radical political activism of the era. Some others have suggested that this added to the realism of the story, but for me it pulled me out of that place where our leading couple were falling for each other. I liked the sense of intrigue that pulled Jack and Viola together. But the political propaganda felt a little “preachy", and I could have done without that. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through NetGalley.

One Night of Scandal by Darcy Burke Wicked Dukes Club #4 For two years Lady Viola Fairfax has written under the name of Tavistock providing articles for a women’s magazine. Women were not perceived capable of writing at all let alone for WOMEN so she created a disguise and went out to her brother’s pub and found stories to write. That she wanted to write meaty newsworthy political stories was not to be...for a number of reasons. When she overhears a rumor and decides to follow it, in disguise, and Jack Barrett realizes what she is up to...we...he pulls her away, listens to why she is set on following the story and finds himself offering to assist her in her endeavors. That neither Viola nor Jack ever plan to marry should make it easy to spend time together, right? Well, the time they spend together has them soon thinking about one another in slightly different ways than they expected. This was a delightful story of two people who knew what they wanted in life and did what they could to make it happen. In the process they happened to fall in love with one another and find their HEA together. I loved the main characters and also the secondary ones. I look forward to reading book five as soon as it is out! Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

I was thoroughly enchanted with Darcy Burke’s One Night of Scandal, the fourth book in the Wicked Dukes Club, alternately authored in the series with Erica Ridley. Viola Fairfax, the younger sister of Val, the Duke of Eastleigh, has been masquerading as a journalist for a women’s publication, with the nom de plume of Tavistock. Viola is frustrated that as a woman she isn’t accepted as a true journalist and must resort to the subterfuge. To gain or hear gossip or information to use for stories in her publication, she enjoys visiting the Wicked Earl tavern. Besides her brother, no one recognizes who she really is except Jack Barrett, a member of parliament and patron of the Wicked Duke. Viola overhears a conversation which she shares with Jack. He agrees to help her with her research. Neither Jack nor Viola have intentions to marry, but the more they work together, the more they are attracted to one another. I felt that Jack and Viola were mutually likable characters with lots of great dialogue between them with just the right amount of humor and seriousness. Note, there is one sweet, steamy, consensual encounter between Jack and Viola. The intrigue going on in the story was enlivened by the fact that Darcy Burke incorporated some actual political events and issues prevalent during that era. For me, this was refreshing and rare in a Regency romance. Though this book is part of a series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone work. I voluntarily read an ARC of this work and my review is based upon my opinions of what I read.

It took more than a little while for me to wrap my head around Jack and welcome him into my heart. He's the guy you want to love, but are never sure you can actually trust. Burke is at her best when her characters are at their worst. One Night of Scandal draws readers into an intriguing love affair. Jack and Violet are a complication the heart doesn't need, but refuses to do without. Neither is what they seem and that's what made me love them so much more. A temptation worth exploring.
