I have been waiting for CIA operative John Bishop’s aka Henry Flanders story from the first time he was mentioned. He intrigued me so much and I was so excited when I knew that this was his book. I have always loved the character of Nell Finn, so innocent and yet such a passionate advocate for the causes she supports. I loved learning the history of how Nell and Henry came to be and this story was every thing I hoped for and so much more. Henry has led a life of sacrifice, surrounded by death. Taking a much needed break in Bliss, Colorado he meets the intriguing and obviously submissive Nell. When danger lands on Nell and her mother’s door step, Henry does what he does best, investigates and protects. Can Henry keep Nell safe? I loved seeing all the characters that I have come to love when they were young and before they found their significant others. Even though you know Henry and Nell end up together, it doesn’t stop the emotions from flowing as they face the heartbreak of separation. It is because you get to see glimpses of previous characters and catch up on their lives. I love the quirkiness of the characters who call Bliss home and I cannot wait for the next adventure in Bliss.   This may well be my favourite book in the series which says something as I have loved every book on this series.

This is another great book by the amazing Lexi Blake (writing as Sophie Oak) and an amazing addition to the Nights in Bliss series. If you follow my reviews, you definitely know that I am a huge Lexi Blake fan and will read everything her incredible mind thinks of. And Once Upon a Time in Bliss is not an exception. This story is set slightly in the past and it's the story of how Nell and Henry came to be. I have to say, it wasn't exactly what I expected it would be but that only made it more special. But as it can be expected, there was danger, suspense, a little bit of heartbreak and a lot of hotness :D I've wanted to know Nell and Henry's story from the first moment when I met them in one of the previous books. At the time, they seemed so different that I just wanted to find out how they got together. And to be fair, after reading the book, I definitely know that they are different as night and day. But as they say, opposites attract. And that;s exactly the case here. When Nell and Henry meet for the first time, she is as innocent and hopeful of life as he is jaded and disillusioned. But from the first moment their eyes cross, it is obvious that the chemistry between them is undeniable. And the truth is that, they can give each other what they need. Whereas, Henry can bring excitement, adventure and a lot of naughtiness in to Nell's life, she can give him love, acceptance and hope for the future. Of course, things are never as easy as they seem and unfortunately, danger honor and commitments stay in the way of Nell and Henry's HEA. Until the people they love, their family in Bliss, helps them find a way to be together. So, if you are looking for a romance with a naughty twist, heartbreak and hope and of course revisiting with some of our favorite characters, before they found their HEA, this is the book for you. And if you haven't read any of the books in the series, you can still enjoy this one as a standalone. Though, I can guarantee that you will want to read the rest of the books :D I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Henry Flanders has always been an enigma to the residents living in Bliss, CO, but for those who have read the Masters and Mercenaries series you may recognize the name John Bishop. A ruthless CIA operative. Where did he go and how did he disappear? Bliss is a protective town, full of odd people, but people take the task of protecting their own very seriously. If Henry has secrets he wants to keep hidden there is no better place to hide them then in Bliss. Henry/John has seen so much death he has no idea how to live a life outside of the CIA. He believes there is no out aside from death himself, but if there was a way he'd want to spend it living beside the one person who has ever made him feel anything, Nell Finn. Nell is the only person he's ever felt the need to settle down with and live out his days in somewhat normalcy. Or at least Bliss normalcy. Nell Finn is a vegan, protesting, anti-killing, basically anti-everything that John Bishop has done with his life-person. However, she is drawn to Henry Flanders like a moth is drawn to a flame. His domineering presence calls to her, which goes against her normal feminist thinking, but she's okay with it because Henry seems to need her loving protection. What she also needs is someone looking into the destruction that happened to her home. Yes, she's used to receiving threats, she gets them all the time, no one exactly likes being protested against, but this time someone trashed her house and she isn't exactly sure who. Henry may only be in town for a few days, but he's determined to help. As much as she believes in doing things for herself, she appreciates his help and his good looks don't exactly hurt either. Somehow, the two of them click and together they balance each other out. He likes protecting her and understands her need to make the world a better place. She likes comforting him and understands his need to make her world a better place. Their love is a beautiful compromise. Once Upon A Time In Bliss is a go back in time book, which has honestly been so much fun to read. The book is filled with characters both from Bliss and Masters and Mercenaries before they found their mates, before chaos rained down on their worlds and caused some of them to become hardened. This is a story before everything began and yet if you know both worlds we know what happens to each person Henry and Nell run into. In truth normally catch up in any book is my favorite part, but this is even better because I loved chuckling at some of the silly things people said, knowing what was in store for them. It was also whimsical about how carefree they were before situations changed their emotional state. There are so many changes to come down the line, this story really hit home about what hasn't changed yet. I loved Henry and Nell's story, because they are a huge dichotomy of love interests and have always made me laugh. Through every Bliss story I wondered how they ended up together, question answered. Plus, this story is a wonderful trip down memory lane, making this one of my favorite Bliss novels. If you love both the Bliss series and the Master and Mercs series, this book is a MUST read!!

The more time I spend in Bliss, CO, the more I fall in love with this town, it's special way of life, and its quirky and endearing population. Author Lexi Blake obviously loves this town and its inhabitants, too, and it shows. The stories are a unique blend of intrigue, romance, and shenanigans, and, once I start one, I'm all in. ONCE UPON A TIME IN BLISS has found a special place in my heart. How could I not love Nell Finn? Her innocence, her convictions, her desire to take care of others, make her so dear. And Henry Flanders, finding his place in Bliss, as one does, finding the home that he hasn't had in a very long time, and the love that he never saw coming, is just what Nell needs. Lexi has given this little town and these characters so much heart that it's impossible not to fall in love with all of it. And the mystery aspect, the part that keeps me flipping pages, is a great counter to the slightly odd love story. This is a world that I will happily visit again and again. If you've never read one of Lexi's books, the Nights In Bliss series is a great place to start. Settle in and get to know the folks here; I guarantee that you'll want to visit often.

I do love me a great origin story to a favorite series, and Lexi Blake, writing under the pen name of Sophie Oak, gives fans of her Nights in Bliss series exactly that with Once Upon a Time in Bliss. This is the second edition of the book and contains new content, but since I never read the original release, I can't really tell you what's new and what isn't. Either way, this was such a treat to read, especially considering the main characters here, Nell Finn and Henry Flanders/John Bishop, are such pillars of the oh-so-quirky but seriously entertaining town of Bliss, Colorado. I don't think you necessarily need to read the previous books in the series BUT my feeling is that it's far more enjoyable if you do because then you know why getting Nell and Henry Flanders's love story is such a highlight for fans and readers of the Nights of Bliss books. Lexi Blake doesn't disappoint, and I dare say that Once Upon a Time in Bliss is now my favorite novel in the series AND it's the first one I've given a five-starred rating to! This was fun-filled yet also sentimental, but then I was already invested in Nell and Henry from the very first Nights in Bliss book. ♥

In Once Upon a Time in Bliss, Lexi Blake takes readers back to a time before Bliss became a safe haven for so many - one where they could be themselves and fully experience life in all its glory, without judgment and with the protection that seems to come with being in a town that is willing to fight for each and everyone of its members. In some ways, Nell Finn is the matriarch of Bliss, in the sense of what she believes in and how those ideals seem to transfer to the town as a whole, so being able to get into her head and understand her through her own perspective allowed readers to truly see what drives her, what frames her outlook on life, and what has her offering assistance to anyone who needs it. Henry Flanders has always been an intriguing character, so to see how Henry came to be as well as the man he was before he arrived in Bliss and saw Nell for the amazing woman she is brought things full circle. What I found most interesting about the dynamics of Henry and Nell is just how different their outlooks were and how finding what they both desperately needed in each other allows them to transform into the characters readers have seen throughout this entire series. Being back in Bliss, Colorado, always feels like returning home, catching up with old friends and being introduced to new residents who are sure to bring a bit of danger and mystery to this already unusual and quirky town. But in Nell and Henry’s story, readers get to see the path that was taken to shape Bliss’ present-day and how important its history is for understanding both the town and its inhabitants. 4 Poison Apples
