While Sephe Haven had me at "tale of an escort," I had no idea I was in for a gifted writer's journey to seek an extraordinary life. And it's jaw-dropping! The twists and turns in this story are phenomenal, as are Sephe’s wit, warmth and literary flair. I was astonished by her ability to endure extreme isolation, exhaustion, discomfort, scorn, disgust and fear to keep herself afloat and win her golden ticket. There's also much depth here: her astute observations about two worlds few walk in at the same time; the ubiquitous roadblocks women face; discovery of her talent for emotional healing in unlikely circumstances; and her compelling assessment of her unique psyche. I'm already impatient for the continuing saga and can't wait to see where she'll take me next.

This is one of those "rare" times where the author's ( Sephe Haven's ) actual life reads like a compelling novel Her story tells the good and the bad, with equal honesty. This is a woman who has the courage to walk her own path ......not a "cookie cutter" life for her. She is a person you want to know and would be lucky if you did. ... a very good read..........DO NOT miss it !

“Bold, sizzling, and candidly narrated, My whorizontal Life is the first book in An Escort’s Tale series by Sephe Haven, a memoir that covers the author’s first six months as an escort. Readers are pulled into the author’s search for love through the most unlikely path: prostitution. The story starts with the setting and the timeline of New York City in the late 1980s. Sephe is an idealistic, empathic young woman blinded by her desire for fantasy and romance, fearful of the “real world,” who dreams of true love and being an actress extraordinaire. But just after her Juilliard graduation, poverty and debt overwhelm her and she takes what she thinks will be a very limited leap into the underground world of escorting. But she finds it’s not so easy to get out of it. And maybe she doesn’t want to? Thus begins a memoir that is told in a compelling, humorous voice, each line calculated, well written and packed with wit. The humor greets the reader right from the start with the failed waitressing job and the meanness the author thinks the world reserves for her. Sephe Haven makes readers buy into her worldview, sit at her feet and listen to her story. With candor and honesty, Sephe Haven leads readers into the dilemmas of her life along with the difficult choice of taking the path of an escort. The prose is awesome, alluring and infused with sexiness. It is interesting how the author transforms a painful journey into something that is fun and entertaining and, at times, the reader wonders if this is a real-life narrative or fiction. My Whorizontal Life made me want to meet this author. She is so genuine, so honest, and so funny that even a saint would want to listen to her story.” – Romuald Dzemo for Readers’ Favorite “My whorizontal Life: An Escort’s Tale by Sephe Haven is a true story and memoir written by Sephe of her foray into prostitution. Sephe has written a candid account of her experience so far with prostitution and the shadowy, underground world in which it takes place. Although Sephe has admitted the high as well as low points in her life and career, overall she seems to be content with her life as it turned out. The book also provides an insight into the tragic aspects of life as a prostitute for many others who live on the fringes of society without any hope of a better life, as well as the real risks involved in doing this. I also appreciated that Sephe has chosen to talk about her so-called friend to who she confided her secret and his judgmental behavior is once again a sad reflection of an unfair and sexist society that condemns the women involved in this, but never the men. Sephe Haven writes candidly and engagingly and I am looking forward to reading more books from her.” – Gisela Dixon for Readers’ Favorite “My whorizontal Life: An Escort’s Tale: The First Sex Months by Sephe Haven is a unique kind of memoir and I applaud the author for coming forward and sharing her story with us. She definitely gives us a different perspective on how we perceive the escort business, what goes on behind the scenes and the high-profile glitz and glamour we see. This could have been a very dark story, but Sephe has done a brilliant job at making her story compelling while at the same time keeping it real and raw. Sephe Haven’s compelling story, had me completely immersed from the get-go. The flow was just perfect. By the time I reached the middle of the story, it was as if I personally knew her. I could picture her expressions, her dilemm

Enjoyed (and transported)! This was an intimate voyage into the heart and lifestyle of a beginning call girl who found meaning and purpose in taking the "sex business" to another level, beyond the transactional. She elevated it to an art, a healing practice, all the while observing all the nuances of the characters in her life with a trained actress' eye. The writing is clear, evocative and fresh, both heartbreaking at times and then funny, such a strong voice. Dying to find out what happens next!

My Whorizontal Life woke me up to some truths about sex work and intimacy. Sephe Haven's memoir frolics through the first six months of her daring dive into the escort business in NYC circa late '80s. She finds her way to the one of the city's most well connected madams and begins an adventure that would undo the most intrepid of heroines. Through sex work, the author finds herself at once in peril and empowered. Sephe Haven examines her decisions philosophically, she searches for a silver lining in every interaction. The observations are witty, unbridled, and strikingly rich with empathy and care for people who many among us may think of with scorn. She lovingly undresses her clients, paying rich attention to the particular details of their bravado and their vulnerability. She is not one to wallow in regret. After all a girl has got to pay the bills, to live her life on her terms and to finance the creative life she craves as a theatre artist! It is a thrilling, effortless read that left me wanting to read more.

I devoured this book. It was going to be my summer read, but I have no self control so it was inhaled in one day, with a glass of wine and a box of tissues. This book is not just a series of salacious and laugh-out-loud hilarious tales of an escort's adventures (although most of the chapters will leave you in stitches). It is at once engaging and relatable story with big heart. I never thought that I would relate to the main character/author and figured I would just be a passive voyeur, but I soon discovered that I related to her as a woman navigating the complicated world of love and dating and connecting to men, as a young woman who was rejected and ridiculed for my appearance, as an artist struggling to make ends meet, as a friend betrayed by those I trusted the most. This book is a must read. If you have a heart and a sense of humor - read this book. Heck, if you have a heartbeat - READ THIS BOOK!

This compelling story is told with great humor, honesty and tenderness. Sephe is a survivor who ventures into the world of "escorting" out of desperation, but discovers surprising rewards. She creatively makes her way through every strange new challenge and is able to find wonder and delight. Her fascinating stories taught me a lot about this profession and helped me understand how and why some people get good at it and find fulfillment. I'm looking forward to her next book!!

“A Surprise” I got the book, got about halfway through and I couldn’t put it down- but I had to go to a meeting—and honestly I needed a break - so many emotions - smiling - laughing - crying - thoughts - Not much work done yesterday—but I read the book in two sittings. Initially, the cover caught my eye and I was curious about the subject and the clever title “My Whorizontal Life: An Escort's Tale: The First Six Sex Months “ caught my attention. This is truly a unique story and gives a perspective that is both new and different than I imagined. One of the main underlying themes in the book is about the power of Compassion and Love. It’s the story of a young, talented, intelligent, idealistic and compassionate woman, trapped in the “Real World” – who is struggling to survive crushing debt, poverty and disappointment for not having a career and a life that she had so hoped for. The author is both talented and gifted in her writing – I was immediately drawn into the her point of view, I was able to begin to easily walk in her shoes and visualize her journey into the “Underworld”. I was Surprised by all the emotions I experienced when reading this book – I was smiling – laughing – crying – sometimes all at the same time. This was an easy and enjoyable read. I would highly recommend this book – for sure it is a great summer read. I can’t wait for the second book in this series.
