Overview

"In the Language of Crows" is my first book of poetry and represents work I didn't know I had the capacity to create. It is as much an expression of age as it is a coming-of-age; imbued with the impressions of life, love, loss, and maturation as derived from, not only personal experience, but the experiences of lives past and present; lives that trod the uneven landscape of American life in the character of the negro; the nigger; the black; the African-American.

You will find that the speaker's voice is sometimes experiential; presented as witness, participant, or both. So, at its heart, the essence of this collection is storytelling, meant to invite exploration and examination, both of oneself and of experience – just as any good story should.

About the Author

Joe Jackson currently finds himself landlocked in Dallas, Texas but he yearns to return to the west coast. Growing up in Los Angeles, he never expected to be so close to longhorn steers. He is curious but also cautious about what he terms the “strange and oddly comical, cow-trodden Dallas landscape. Even so, he is a life-long member and participant of the Austin International Poetry Festival. In 2018, he was a finalist in the Atlanta Review’s International Poetry contest, and received first publication of his work in that year’s Literary Review.
