When a five-foot-nothing lawyer's client goes missing, nothing will get in the way of her efforts to find him—not even a violent terrorist cell, a trained assassin, and an opioid-trafficking ring.

You guessed it. Sasha McCandless-Connelly is back.

When Sasha's client is a no-show for his federal sentencing hearing in a bulk money smuggling case, the presiding judge is not amused. He gives her the weekend to locate the guy or face the consequences.

She tracks down her client in a remote West Virginia town, but it's not the end of her problems—it's just the beginning. He's being held hostage by violent men who are convinced he's the key to eight million dollars that have gone missing from a terrorist organization's coffers.

After a day passes with no word from Sasha, an increasingly worried Leo leaves the kids with a friend and heads to West Virginia in search of his wife. He arrives only to end up in the middle of a massive drug-trafficking investigation.

Cut off from one another and from any means of communication and surrounded by players who aren't who they seem to be, Sasha and Leo each figure out half of the story. Now, they're running out of time to put it all together.

But anyone who knows Sasha and Leo knows better than to bet against them.

About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Melissa F. Miller is a former attorney who traded the practice of law for the art of telling stories.

As a lawyer, she clerked for a federal judge; practiced in the offices of major international law firms; and ran a two-person law firm with her lawyer husband. Now, powered by coffee, she writes crime fiction and homeschools her three children. When she's not writing, and sometimes when she is, she travels around the country in an RV with her husband, kids, and cat.

I received an eARC of this book with a request that I give an honest review. Sasha's client fails to appear in court for a mandatory hearing and the judge gives Sasha a weekend to find him and brim him to court. She travels to West Virginia to a remote cabin where her client was reported to be staying. Thus begins an intriguing tale of money laundering and illicit trafficking of drugs. Leo joins Sasha when he cannot connect with her. I do not want to spoil what is a well written page turner of a story. Definitely a 5 star book.

Absentia is one of my favorite books of the Sasha McCandless legal thriller series. Why? First, it is well written. I could not guess the ending of the book until it ended so I was always guessing. Next, Mellissa does a nice job of creating new characters that are very believable. She is so descriptive at times, that I can almost in my mind, see the place or experience the event. Once again, she never crosses the line by keeping the story clean and entertaining. I feel comfortable recommending it to my friends, family and even grandchildren. For an entertaining read, I strongly recommend you read this book. You will not regret it!

I am an avid fan but f the Sasha McCandless series! This book was another example of thrill you get when reading the adventures of Sasha and Leo. The only thing that I missed was a little more action from Sasha. Still the adventure took me on ride from page after page. Can't wait for the next installment of adventure from this adorable couple!

Sasha. has a client that doesn’t show up for the final court date, what happened. In not coming he faces jail time, and he says he unknowing gave material support to terrorists. That why she hated this case, he had to have some knowledge of what he was doing. A charity using Teddy bears was being used for something else, before being shipped to middle east.. Sasha husband wanting to help finds information on the database that shows information Sasha is not aware her client guilty, or is he innocent. A good case file plot that has one puzzled. The length people go to for greed Love the added touch of Sasha with her family in the story. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Another great Sasha book! Sasha's client doesn't turn up to trial, even though he was prepared to, and it was really in his best interests to attend. Sasha immediately worries, thinking something has happened to him, possibly on the way to court. Unfortunately, when Sasha tracks him down, she unravels a much larger scheme, which changes her whole outlook on the case, and her client. Not everyone is who they seem to be at first glance, and there are twists you don't expect. I really enjoyed this story and read most of it in one sitting. I didn't want to stop! It has a great ending, too.
