For decades, America's craft breweries have been memorializing important people, places and events from American history through the names of their breweries and beers. Hops and History is a collection of 275 stories from American history and folklore, all of which are inspired by breweries and beers from across the country, including from every state in the U.S. Some stories are powerful, some are terrifying, and some are so bizarre it is hard to believe they are actually true. All together, this collection provides a unique, insightful and enjoyable look at the U.S. as it celebrates America's craft breweries and the United States of America!

Whether you enjoy American history AND/OR love planning trips to visit new breweries this book is a fantastic tour guide. While I am not a big beer enthusiast, I am an enormous fan of American history and each page is filled with detailed facts about this AMAZING country! Traveling through the book from beginning to end, I reinforced my learning of some concepts and was completely surprised by others. I found myself smiling and giggling, or tearing up throughout. While we are far from perfect as a nation, we have accomplished remarkable feats for being an infant country...each page makes me more proud to be an American! :) When you buy this book (and you should) you will revel in the spirit of every American person, place or event included. You’ll meet charismatic animals, criminals and outlaws, heroes and heroines, our Founding Fathers, military battles/wars, famous writers, National Parks and famous nature trails, inventors...the topics are varied and all provide an interesting glimpse (one topic/brewery per page) into the makings of our 243 year-old country. So fun and informational. For the beer enthusiast, each page features a unique brewery throughout the U.S. The author carefully chose breweries who are keeping America’s unique history alive. The book is very much focused on the history of the country and that history is getting new recognition due to the breweries who have chosen to name their creations honoring important people, events, ideas and places. While I do recommend reading it from cover to cover, this book would also be a great gift for anyone interested in beer, U.S. history...or both!! Enjoy! :)
