Life as a backdrop has its rewards.
Miss Brianna Silverton not only prefers life in the background--she depends on it. It is far easier to decide upon a proper husband for her younger sister that way, plus, it keeps her rooted as the spinster she is determined to be. She has secrets to hide, and she isn't about to let another man touch her--never again.

He knew it the very moment he saw her.
A constant wanderer, the Earl of Luhaunt, Sebastian Rallager, never paused in one place for long. Not until the moment he saw Brianna across a crowded ballroom floor. Instinct had never failed Sebastian, and he knew it instantly--she was his. Now he just had to convince her of that fact.

Fate always finds a way.
Just as Sebastian begins to see that staying in one place might be exactly what he had been searching for, secrets of the past loom. Because Brianna is not only hiding herself from the world, she is hiding secrets that cannot see the light of day. Secrets that could destroy her, and the one man determined to love her.

Seb's behavior at the river really tainted my enjoyment of this book. He was a complete "south end of a horse headed north". He was a bully, not a hero. It was beyond the pale, making it difficult for me to have any sympathy for him at all.

Love these books! Easy to read, and attention grabbing. Characters that are easy to understand and identify with! When love was both simple and complex. And romance was steamy and passionate!

I truly enjoy everything this author writes. This was no exception and it kept me enthralled from beginning until the last page was turned. A story of secrets, suspense, mystery and a coming together of two unexpected people. Brianna Silverton, determined to never marry herself, focuses on finding her sister a suitable husband. She has had one experience with a man and vows never again and she keeps her secrets to herself. But her life is about to change when Sebastian, the Earl of Luhaunt comes into her life. He is totally enchanted when he sees her across a ballroom. Was it love at first sight for him? He had not stayed in one place too long, but she made him want to do so. I loved these two characters and their struggle to get to their happy end. Part of a series, this can be read as a standalone, but trust me, you will want to read them all!! Lori Dykes

I really enjoy this author’s books this was one was every bit as good as the last. It’s hard to figure out where the story is heading there are so many possible moves and just when you think you’ve figured it out it takes a different and unexpected turn. His book is about one set of the previous Dukes’s illegitimate children. In the first book we ended with the new Duke getting a box filled with papers and him saying he has sisters. It was not a cliffhanger but more a segue into this book. Rowe, the current Duke, and his wife persuade Lily and Brianna to come live with them to be presented in society. Brianna goes as spinster sister to chaperone Lily. Lily is having her season and she drinks way too much. Her drinking is commented on but the author doesn’t do anything with it. It didn’t detract from the story at all. They go back to the castle and three of Lily’s suitors are to visit one after the other for Lily to get better acquainted and make a decision. However Brianna who has been very circumspect winds up getting compromised and Lily insists that she marry the Earl. From this point on thee story takes wings and there was no putting the book down. I had to finish it so I could get some sleep :-). Excellent story, I’m looking forward to the next one.

Her best book yet, strong characters, good action scenes dispersed evenly but... very difficult following her dialogue. This author should review the rules of writing dialogue!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I think of all of K.J. Jackson’s books, this one is my favorite. There was romance, mystery, and action in it. However, there were two things that stuck out to me about this book that made me absolutely love it. The first is that I LOVED Sebastian, he’s my favorite kind of hero. It’s hard to explain but I always love the guys who see things simply: they recognize the inner beauty of the woman they have chosen and know, beyond doubt, that they belong together. It is a simple fact. Don’t get me wrong, Sebastian is not perfect, he makes mistakes, but that just makes him more believable and endearing to me. The second thing that I loved was Brianna and her relationship with her sister. It’s rocky and they disagree a lot but no matter how angry and hurt they are by the other, the bottomline is that they are sisters and they love each other and no one can break that, even them. I have three sisters and am well versed in the ups and downs of having sisters. I also loved how Brianna would do anything, sacrifice anything, to see to her sister’s happiness.
