Now, all that changes when he finds his mother, whom he thought had perished in a fire, dying from a gunshot wound. In her last breath, she urges him to find and protect the father he never knew. Where has his father been? Why has he never made contact? Can Chase discover why his family is a target before an unknown enemy destroys him?

This was a suspense novel that hit me like a breath of fresh air. As someone who thoroughly enjoys thrillers, it is usually difficult to find one that you cannot predict. I was unable to predict where this book was going and found it bothersome to have to put down without necessary good reason. I would recommend this book to my fellow mystery/suspense reader peers as well as those looking for a fresh author. I would say this is an author to look out for as well as look forward to with each new publication. Chase Day is on a mission to not only save his father that he never knew but to find answers as to why he and his mother are targeted in the first place. While the plot seems (over)done before, it feels fresh and you really really won't see what comes next - I know I did not! I can't say it enough - this was worth the time and the expense, I can't wait for Daryl Gerber Wood's next suspense novel!!!

This was the first Daryl Gerber that I have read, but it will not be my last! The story had me hooked from the very beginning and kept me through the entire book. The action in the book is very fast paced and I felt as though I could connect and feel what the characters were feeling and there were many feelings to be felt in the twist and turns that make up this story. Chase finding out that his mother, whom he thought was dead long ago, was alive and he has quite the ride trying to figure out what is truth and what is a lie. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story with lots of action and plot twists along the way!

Day of Secrets by Daryl Wood Gerber features a Former Navy officer who has become a history teacher. He ends up going for the ride of his life as he tries to discover a secret that people would kill for. Chase Day never knew who his father was, but when he learns of his identity, he finds himself in a dangerous race against time to find his father and discover just what secret he has that could turn the world upside down. I loved the book and could not put it down. It was intense, fast reading, and the characters were very believable. Day of Secrets is a great thriller with many twists and turns and kept me turning pages as fast as I could read. I highly recommend this book -- it will definitely keep you reading into the night! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Day of Secrets is the second thriller-type mystery from Daryl Wood Gerber and it is spectacular! Wow. That was the first word that came out of my mouth when I finished this book yesterday evening on my evening break. The second phrase was "Holy Toledo that was intense!" Both of which are dead-on accurate. This was a pretty great read! I fell in love with the characters almost immediately. Chase is a great guy. He's well-rounded and complex. He's had a lot of crap happen in his life, but he seems fairly well-adjusted. Especially for suddenly having to deal with the fact that his mother wasn't really dead, but now she is; his father's alive and apparently in trouble; and his grandmother doesn't seem to be in a hurry to tell him anything about these things. This story moved along at a pace between steady and fast. It was fast-paced, but not so fast that you couldn't follow the story line and/or got lost in the details. I think I described it to my mom as "a cliff-hanger on every other page". That was a slight exaggeration, but not by much! The action in this book really keeps the story hopping! I thought the ending was terrific. Things worked out the way they were supposed to and you got the feeling that all the major players were going to be alright after their run-in with the villains. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good suspenseful thriller that doesn't have a lot of gruesome, violent scenes! Buy it. Read it. Enjoy it! *** Thank you to Daryl Wood Gerber for providing me with an ARC of this book. I was not compensated for my review. All opinions and conclusions are my own. ***

I have read and loved many of Daryl Wood Gerber's cozy Cookbook Nook series, and also her Cheese Shop mysteries written under her pen name of Avery Aames. Day of Secrets is more of a thriller mystery and definitely has a different tone and intensity. The book starts with the main character Chase Day receiving a call from his mother, a women he has thought dead for twenty some years. She asks him to come to the trailer they lived in and to hurry. He arrives at the trailer to find that his mother has been shot and is dying, but she manages to give him some cryptic clues and asks him to save his father, a man he has never met. If that isn't strange enough, he runs into his high school girlfriend at the hospital. Chase frantically tries to find his father as well as figure out why his father and mother have been targeted. The action is fast paced and the plot twists will keep you on the edge of your seat. I really felt drawn to Chase and the ups and downs of his emotions as he finds his entire life has revolved around a lie. He cannot take time to grieve or process what this means as he must find his father and piece together the meaning of the pictures and other items his mother has given him. This book is very well written and you will be kept guessing up until the end as to what is really going on. I received an ARC from the author and volunteered to write a review.

Day of Secrets by Daryl Wood Gerber is one of those suspense novels that is hard to put down as it draws you into the story from the first chapter. Chase Day is a very complex character that has to confront his past, uncover buried secrets and protect his grandmother. As he moves forward to find answers, he doesn't know who to trust. Is he paranoid or are his mother's secrets really deadly? The secondary characters added richness to the story as they all played an integral part of the story. The plot moved at a steady pace and the descriptive writing by Ms. Gerber kept me glued to the pages because I felt like I was right there with Chase every step of the way. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It was filled with great characters that I hope to get to know in future books. The plot was well paced and full of twists. Chase Day is a former Navy Lieutenant who now teaches History at a local San Francisco area college (as a History teacher myself I particularly liked this point.) He receives a phone call one day from his mother. The problem is that he had always believed his mother died when he was a child. When he goes to her she has just been shot and tells him he needs to save his father. Another problem, he didn't know who his father was. The mystery begins. Overall, a well written, suspenseful mystery novel.

Chase Day was orphaned thirty-one years ago, raised by his loving grandmother, and working on getting his life together as a forward-thinking, ex-navy, History Professor. But his life is quickly shattered when he receives a telephone call from his supposedly long-dead mother. Racing to her side, he discovers her mortally wounded, begging him to save his father. Father! Who is he! Chase soon finds himself on a non-stop roller coaster ride as he tries to fulfill her dying wish, chased by both the bad guys and the police. Is there anyone that he can trust? This author is well known for her cozy mystery series, but be warned this is not a cozy, but a well-written, stand-alone suspense novel. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing the Advance Reading Copy of this book.

This is Daryl's second foray into fiction and there is no stopping her, in just a few sentences she is able to bring her characters to life. In Day of Secrets, main character Chase has lived his life with the knowledge that his mother died when he was a child. After finishing work one day he receives a phone call and surprise it's his mom and she needs his help. Chase rushes to help this woman to whom he thought was dead and his world is turned upside down. Follow along with Chase as he learns where his mom has been, who his father really is and so much more. Chase finds himself needing to figure out the truth to all his unanswered questions and why so many secrets. I loved the writing style of this book and finished it in one sitting. Daryl really knows how to draw you into a story and keep your attention there. I look forward to more from her!

This is a good mystery with lots of old secrets. Old secrets that kill. It is quite the roller coaster ride. Chase's mother died when he was five and he never knew his father. Then one day he gets a call from his mother. By the time he got to her, she had been shot. She stayed alive long enough to tell him to protect his father. Now he is trying to find his father and the reason for his mother's murder. An old girlfriend shows up and he isn't sure she can be trusted. He relies on his friends, but he isn't sure he can even trust the police. He needs to unravel the old mystery to keep his father, friends and grandmother safe.

Day of Secrets is another absolutely riveting book by author Daryl Wood Gerber (the first being last year's Girl on the Run), who is best known for her cozy mystery series, but as of late has been branching out into the suspense genre. In a nutshell, Chase, our protagonist is a former Navy man, now history professor, and must overcome the trauma of his past to find and save the father he never knew, all while trying to keep a vital document out of enemy hands. Fast-paced, and quite the page turner. (Side note: it's so refreshing to read a suspense book without lots of violence and profanity!!!) I highly recommend Day of Secrets to one an all, even those who are not traditional suspense readers. This is a very well-written story and I was on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. A+

Daryl Wood Gerber's Day of Secrets Stunning emotional read. Deceit around every turn!!! Chase Day was five years old when his mother died in fire. He never knew who his father was. His grandmother raised him. Now he is a former Naval Officer who is a university professor of history plus he teaches art class for veterans who suffer from PTSD. One telephone call interrupts and changes his life as he knows!!! The call is from his mother....Chase recognizes her voice....How can this be??? Rushing to where she tells him to come, he finds her shot. She is only able to mutter that Chase must find and save his father. With the help of reliable friends at the Veterans Outreach Facility, he needs to find his father plus keep himself and his grandmother safe from the sinister forces plotting against his father. Fast paced, action packed suspense with intrigue, deceit, secrets, murder, crypts, coverups and more secrets. The tension was thick and well-sustained with plenty of twists and turns. The characters were well created, colorful, well defined, realistic involved in chaotic plot. I volunteered to read this eBook. Thanks to the author and publisher via The Cozy Mystery Review Crew for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.

Day of Secrets by Daryl Wood Gerber begins with Chase Day teaching a therapeutic art class and getting several phone calls that he sends to voice mail. A former lieutenant in the Navy, Chase now teaches War History at a college. Once the class is complete he gets another call, this time from his mother who has been dead for over 31 years asking for his help. This call sets into motion the entire rest of the story where Chase discovers secrets in his past and how by them being revealed he is threatened and target Numero Uno. The first half of this book is a tad slow for me. I sometimes in this sort of fiction find myself wondering how an average Joe finds themselves in this situation. You need to suspend a lot of reality. But the writing is A+ and the story is cleverly crafted and plotted. I can only imagine the outlining that went into this book. For Daryl's cozy fans while this is more of a thrilling suspense, there is barely if any bad language or graphic depictions of sex. It can be a little gruesome though. Chase's poor face! Descriptions are also key here and they paint a picture so vivid you can see it in your mind.

A Former Navy officer, now a history teacher, literally goes for the ride of his life to discover a secret that people would kill for, held by the father he knew nothing about. Chase Day never knew who his father was, but when he learns of his identity, he finds himself in a dangerous race against time to find his father and discover just what secret he has that could turn the world upside down. I loved the book and could not put it down. It was intense, fast reading, and the characters were very believable, from Chase's friends to those who would do anything to keep Chase from discovering his father's secret. Day of Secrets is a great thriller with many twists and turns and kept me turning pages as fast as I could read. I highly recommend this book -- it will definitely keep you reading into the night!
