Warren Allen Smith, whose "Who's Who in Hell" contained over 10,000 brief briographies of non-believers in 2000, started his research in 1948 with letters from Thomas Mann, Somerset Maugham, and George Santayana explaining what they meant by the word "humanism." He lives in Greenwich Village, New York City.
