Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen at Edwards Barn based on 0 ratings. 1 reviews.
For those of us fortunate to have been at a Chris and Herb performance, the big question that always has been asked was: "When are you guys going to do a Live Album?" "Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen: Live at Edwards Barn" is the answer. Not only does it capture the magic (and sometimes mirth) of a Chris and Herb concert with a great list of songs and those wonderful harmonies, but the 'boys' are backed by a first-rate band and the locale could not have been better - inside an old Cowboy barn complete with high ceilings along the central coast of California. Chris, Herb, Bill Bryson on Bass, Larry Park on Guitar, and the fantastic David Mansfield on Fiddle run through a fine selection of songs that encompasses the stellar careers of both Mrssrs. Hillman and Pedersen. To be sure "Eight Miles High", "Turn, Turn, Turn", "Sin City" and "Wheels" are there, but so are newer gems like their great cover of the Louvin Brothers "If I Could Only Win Your Love" (first recorded by Herb as Emmylou Harris's duet partner on her first post-Gram Parsons solo album), "Desert Rose", from Hillman's pre-Desert Rose Band solo album, "Have You Seen Her Face", Hillman's debut as a frontline singer in the Byrds, their tribute to their good friend and mentor, the late Buck Owens in "Together Again", and Chris own tribute to his Cowboy roots in the new "The Cowboy Way". Throughout it all the instrumentation is crisp, on the mark, and those great voices and harmonies are at their best. A must for all Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen fans, and those who love great Americana music.
